Care kits take the guesswork out of preventative maintenance

Baxi has launched new Care Kits designed to make preventative boiler maintenance simpler for installers.

A key benefit of proactive preventative maintenance is that it supports reliable performance over the lifetime of the boiler. By addressing high-wear components at the right time, installers can help reduce unexpected breakdowns and callouts, minimising disruption for homeowners and maintaining optimal system efficiency.

Baxi’s new kits, while optional and not a warranty requirement, offer a structured, planned approach to maintenance focused on high-wear components. They are available in two types: Care Kits, and Care Kits Plus.

The Care Kits are recommended for use during an annual boiler service as part of routine preventative maintenance.

They include a combustion chamber door gasket, a flue adapter test point and O-ring, among other parts. Replacing gaskets and seals is recommended once exposed through routine boiler strip-down during an annual service, to ensure efficient heating and hot water delivery. Baxi’s Care Kits Plus are designed for key lifecycle points where additional components may benefit from replacement. They are recommended by Baxi to be fitted every three to five years, dependent on system condition and usage. These kits contain everything in the Baxi Care Kit along with an ignition electrode with gasket and screws, an expansion vessel valve core, and a plate-to-plate heat exchanger gasket and screws.

The combination of components within each kit has been carefully selected based on Baxi’s research into the most frequently replaced parts. Baxi’s data suggests that the components in the Care Kits are used in around a third of service and repair situations. Packaging them together means they can be sold by merchants at a more competitive price point and ensures the installer has everything that Baxi recommends they need at the time they need it.

For installers, an added benefit of Baxi’s Care Kits is that they serve as a visual demonstration of the replacement work and value of the annual service, reducing the possibility of warranty call outs between services and providing greater customer satisfaction.

Andrew Speake, Portfolio Manager at Baxi, said: “Installer input was an integral part of the development of the Care Kits. The feedback from the engineers taking part in the research was that our Care Kits are reassuring to the homeowner and add value, and that the pre-selected parts, along with the recommended timings for use, removes the guesswork commonly involved in preventative maintenance.

“Additionally, they commented that having all the parts in one sealed package would remove the need for multiple orders and journeys, while avoiding the need to carry loose spares which can easily become damaged or lost in the engineer’s van.

“Our Care Kits offer a straightforward way for installers to carry out best practice preventive maintenance based on the age and condition of the boiler for the benefit of the customer. Providing these identified components in easy-to-access Care Kits means they can be simply replaced before issues occur. In this way, we hope to help installers move from reactive repairs to planned maintenance, supporting reliable performance, homeowner comfort, fewer disruptions, and providing clear value for the customer.” www.baxi.co.uk
