Summer is traditionally a time to pause and take stock, but there is certainly no shortage of change happening across the heating, plumbing and renewables sector. From evolving regulations and new low-carbon technologies to shifting customer expectations, installers and manufacturers alike are continuing to adapt to an industry that rarely stands still.
One of the strongest themes running through our Summer issue is the importance of making practical decisions that deliver long-term value rather than simply chasing the latest innovation. We explore why manufacturers need to think beyond product launch cycles and focus on systems that will continue to perform, remain supported and earn customer confidence. The need for that longer-term thinking is reflected elsewhere too. We examine why underfloor heating is an attractive partner for low-temperature heating systems, and also ask whether hybrid heating could provide the realistic bridge many homeowners need on the UK’s journey towards lower-carbon homes.
Regulation continues to shape our industry. This issue explores the latest plumbing and heating requirements, the growing focus on water efficiency and the role installers can play in helping customers improve the performance of existing heating systems through relatively simple adjustments and maintenance.
Away from technical developments, we’re also highlighting how merchants and bathroom retailers are embracing digital tools to strengthen customer loyalty. The continued success of The IPG App demonstrates that independent businesses are finding new ways to reward customers while creating stronger relationships beyond the trade counter.
Finally, we round off the July/August issue with a look at how advances in PPE, particularly safety footwear, are helping improve not only protection, but comfort and wellbeing for professionals spending long days on site. Wherever the next few months and years take the industry, one thing remains certain: success will belong to those who combine technical knowledge with the willingness to adapt.
